"Heathcliff Rosenman just wants to be loved. Trouble is, he's the type only a mother could love. And even she doesn't like Heathcliff. You'll love this 'slice of life' comedy about a stand-up comic's failed attempts to become a famous serial killer by murdering Queens-area women in an attempt to impress his junkie mother."
Our first production, this one-hour play starred Shane Mason as the play's famous and infamous hero. The show was reviewed by precisly dick-- although houses were good-sized. At this point, Cherry Red was usingthe name Put Down The Gun Productions. The name stemmed from director Griffin's feelings toward his leading man (who dropped half his lines.)
A quick story for the kiddies... Unable to rehearse at DCAC, on opening night, the cast did a run through at one of the actors' apartments. The rehearsal was interupted by a knock at the door as Mason, rehearsing Heathcliff's lines, was yelling, "Shut up! Shut up! I'll kill you." When director Griffin answered, there was a cop standing there with (no lie!) his gun drawn. Mason, who was holding a prop pistol at that moment and screaming at another actor, was asked to drop his weapon. Everyone showed up for opening night a bit harried. Nice way to start a new company, eh? Fucking cops.
